New Zealand taxes imported cigars by the weight of tobacco they contain. From 1 January 2026 the excise-equivalent duty is NZ$1,637.09 per kilogram of tobacco. GST of 15% is then charged on the price you paid, plus shipping, plus that duty.
Tobacco has no NZ$1,000 duty-free threshold, so duty applies to every cigar order, and on orders over NZ$1,000, Customs also charges a levy of about NZ$59.58.
You pay this to New Zealand Customs when your parcel arrives, never to us. Every checkout estimates it for your actual cart, using the same rates and our measured tobacco weights.

Yes. New Zealand Customs does not require an import permit for cigars sent by international mail. Like all tobacco, they are subject to excise duty and GST on arrival, and you must be 18 or over to order.

No. The usual NZ$1,000 threshold below which Customs does not collect duty and GST does not apply to tobacco, so duty is payable on every cigar order, whatever its value. The 50 g traveller allowance only covers cigars carried in your luggage.

Shipping is free on orders of NZ$150 or more, and NZ$29.95 below that. Orders ship tracked from Hong Kong and usually arrive within 10 to 15 business days, depending on customs clearance.

Australian customers can pay by cryptocurrency through CoinPayments and save 10%, or choose credit or debit card at checkout and AuCigars will email a secure Visa payment link. New Zealand customers pay by cryptocurrency at checkout, also with 10% off, and can email support@aucigars.com to request a Visa payment link. Card payments are currently charged in US dollars, converted from your AUD or NZD total, so your bank may add a foreign transaction fee. AUD and NZD card payments are coming soon.
