Purchased H. Upmann factory and transferred Montecristo production there, becoming largest factory in Havana

Nationalized by Cuban government during revolution; Menéndez family fled Cuba with seven dollars
1972
Dominican Republic production established; regained legal rights to use Montecristo name in US market
2015
Celebrated 80th anniversary with special limited releases from both Cuban and Dominican operations
